Never trust a man with a mustache

Well, I realize that this post is way overdue, but I've been busy and sick so deal with it, chief. Here's the growth after a total of 4 weeks:

I mean, it's really nothing to write home about. Just something to write on the internet to everyone in the world about. I'd have to say, though, that the final product was pretty impressive. It was impressive enough that when I arrived at the Hoo Hah in Indy, my face was greeted with roaring laughter, and one of Graeme's friends thought I was for real and admitted she was really relieved that it was a joke. So after weeks of uncontrollable anticipation, I give you, using a face that clearly says 'on the contrary, my dear', my finest achievement: the much awaited mustache of Ben Erickson.

In other news, the new songs are coming along nicely. For now, you get a sneak peak of song NAMES.
-Play Dead
-Thousand Miles
-Collide
-Better Now

mustache growing retreat

Jason and I just got back from a week long song writing retreat in weird eastern Ohio. Seriously, we were driving down to the place we were staying, it was about 10:30 pm, and we couldn't see anything. There were run-down houses every now and again, and it was basically just horrifying. Have you ever see Deliverance? Yeah, except we didn't have a bow and arrow. So we spent a week writing songs and growing facial hair.
I think I've made some significant progress, although there's the one stray hair (see photo) that definitely needs to go. Also, I received a big boost of confidence that week because we were watching Training Day, and it dawned on me that my facial hair is almost exactly the same as Ethan Hawke's in that movie.
Anyway, we narrowly escaped being murdered by chainsaws and we ended up doing a ton of really good writing. We wrote 3 new songs almost from scratch, revamped two existing ones (Pharisee, Whiteout) and got some significant work done on two more new ones. There's still one more that might come from the work we did, so that's 8 new songs, not even including the two that we finished before the retreat (Just a Phase, The Water's Edge). We did the math, and we have like 25 songs right now. And the new stuff we have is totally a step forward in our sound, so we're both really excited about where this will go. We need to figure out when we're going to go back into the studio and record all these bad boys.
