Note from Self

thoughts on the band, the sporting world, and other things that have nothing to do with the first two things. hilarity ensues.

Blind Pig, indeed

well, we pulled off maybe our best show ever last night, despite me breaking a string (on my electric! that NEVER happens!) during Simple, which was song 2 of 6. luckily, i brought my old Strat, and rocked out on old blue for the rest of the night. i haven't played that guitar in years. anyway, that will most likely be our last show until after we go into the studio, which means not till probably march 07. keep checking back here though, because we plan to do some fun stuff when we're in the studio and post stuff on the website. also, jason and i decided some of our conversations are too funny to be read by only us, so i'm going to start posting conversations we've had over email or myspace or whatever that made me chuckle...

yeah, the cd was really the birth of Note to Self. the college years were like the dating period, complete with a breakup. and then the writing of the new material was like the marriage, with the time in the studio being the consumation of the marriage. and finally, we gave birth to a bouncing baby band.

on second thought, forget i ever wrote that.

you should create a birthday for "note to self" - hmm... when was note to self born? I guess I would say when the first CD was released. Before that was all just conception & development.

restored roar

so i don't even know what to say about the Tigers right now. watching Joel Zumaya against the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS... i just can't even remember a time that i was just so confident that there was no chance an opponent would be able to even touch a Detroit pitcher. they still have some work to attend to, but things are looking good for them to go to the World Series. the World Series! and if you don't think that my last post was a brilliant ploy of jinx-reverse-psychology, then you're kidding yourself. of course, Sean Casey and Zumaya are both hurt, so maybe i'm posting this a bit early...

besides that, have you been watching Lost? dear Lord, i don't know what to think about in that realm of my life either. how come no one even mentions the "security system" anymore? did Michael and Walt really make it back to the real world? how come Jin can understand and speak that much English after being there for only 2.5 months? ugh. i hope they just wrap the whole thing up and explain everything and make it a hit-you-in-the-face-flash-in-the-pan event. alas, the reality of network television will take over and they'll drag it on as long as they can so the green keeps flowing in. i'm nervous, because they're coming dangerously close to going down the road to jumping the shark.

also, we're playing a show at the blind pig tonight with down the line. and it's SNOWING. i'm not sure what that means, but hopefully people will seek warmth and shelter at the blind pig. and buy cds.

Kissing your sister

Just so there's no confusion, this is an entry about the Detroit Tigers. The poor, poor, sad, gut-wrenching Detroit Tigers. Apparently I really did jinx them with that post I did a while back. This is all my fault. I mean, I guess I'm kind of spoiled, because they're going to the playoffs for the first time since 1987 (I was just turning 7) so I shouldn't get greedy. But when you blow a 10.5 game lead, and lose your final 5 games, 3 to the worst team in the league (the last of which by blowing a 6 run lead) and 2 to the team that finished 10 games behind the team you're about to play in the ALDS, it does not really make you feel like celebrating. I mean, I'm excited to watch the Tigres in the playoffs, but it'll basically consist of them getting pounded by the Yankees. And I hate the frikkin Yankees. To top the whole thing off, I bought playoff tickets on Friday, for Game 5 of the ALDS at home, and they were pretty good seats. Like right behind home plate, row 25. So now that the Tigers are the wildcard team, they lost home-field advantage, which means IF there's a Game 5, it'll be at Yankee Stadium. So no Game 5 in Detroit, no playoff tickets for me. Frikkin A.

Yeah, Brandon, that's how we all feel.
